sweet sunday.

Hey, friends! I know, I know. I’ve been slacking on the blog-front this week. I thinl it was a combination of coming home from vacation, getting shop stuff taken care of, and that crazy snow storm yesterday (what was that??). But I’m back in action now, starting with this week’s “sweet sunday,” which I’ve neglected to post in a few weeks. How has everyone else been? Did I miss anything major in the blogging world? Fill me in!

Also, I wanted to remind my readers about the two giveaways that are currently running—this one from Flex Family Arts (ends 11/16) and this one from Please Note Paper (ends 11/11)! And the winner of the Wayfaring Magnolia giveaway is Julie from Restless Hearts Crafts! Congratulations, Julie! :)

Some sweet things:

1. I love Keiko’s jacket here. It actually reminds me of my new fall coat that I bought from Forever 21 a few weeks ago. I love the way she mixes patterns and textures. She makes it look so easy!

source.

2. This sweet hairstyle would be a welcome change from my usual messy topknot (which I’m currently rockin’). I’m so excited to give it a try!

source.

3. This roasted tomato soup with broiled cheddar might be more “savory” than “sweet,” but I want it in my belly regardless.

source.

4. I am crazy about this sweet DIY – turn an old pair of cowboy boots into a wallet!? Incredible. Unfortunately, all of my boots are in good/not-cut-apart-able shape, but the next cut-apart-able pair I see in the thrift stores will be mine for the DIY-ing.

source.

5. Another DIY I am loving is this one from Design Sponge. I want to make these over the winter so next spring when we start camping in PA, we’ll have these sweet skewers to use around the fire!

source.

6. Simply Breakfast kills me. How sweet does this look?

source.

7. This post is a few weeks old, but in case you didn’t see it—Elsie’s Thrift Tips is a can’t-miss!

source.

8. I found this sweet closet on Pinterest when I was searching for closet organization inspiration. I’ll get there one day, right?

source.

9. I read this post on NYMag.com and now I want to see both “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and “Melancholia” ASAP.

source.

10. Finally, a bit more Disney nerdery (as if you haven’t had enough from me yet). Walt Disney World recently celebrated it’s 40th birthday and the Disney Blog folks posted some sweet vintage memorabilia for me to swoon over. I love that little bag with the balloons all over. So cute!

CLOSED -- sponsor spotlight + paper goods giveaway! • please note paper

Hey, readers! Here's a bit about one of my new sponsors, Elizabeth of Please Note Paper! Enjoy! If you're interested in sponsoring A Wild Tonic, read about it here. ps. Don't miss the giveaway after the interview!

Elizabeth of Please Note Paper

A bit about Elizabeth:
Hello friends! My name is Elizabeth and I live just outside of Los Angeles. I work full time as a product photographer and keep myself very busy on the side. When I'm not blogging, updating my Etsy shops, and pretty much just trying to pry myself away from the computer, I love to cook and bake. I always have my camera with me in the kitchen so I can share new recipes on the blog!

Breakfast Notecards - Set of 12

Tell us about Please Note Paper:
I opened the Please Note paper shop after making some invitations for a friend and then realizing it would be smart to try and sell them. I was so pleased with the outcome that I recently decided to open a second shop... Please Note VINTAGE! The hardest part about the vintage shop is letting things go!

Personalized Backyard Party Invitations - Set of 12

Elizabeth's perfect day is..
Ohhhh my perfect day! Sleeping in is at the top of my list. After a good night's sleep, I'd go out for a huge cup of coffee and my favorite breakfast - biscuits and gravy. Maybe I'd throw a little thrift shopping in there, but for the most part I'd be happy relaxing at home and watching reruns of my favorite shows: I Love Lucy and Roseanne. Yes, I love Roseanne... only seasons 1-4 though, it really goes downhill after that. Anyway, I'd end the day with dinner at my favorite little Mexican food spot and maybe a beer or two. Now this is all I can think about! Maybe I'll try to make it happen this weekend. :)

Personalized Fawn Stationery - Set of 12

GIVEAWAY!

One randomly-chosen winner will receive their item of choice from the Please Note Paper shop!

film friday: "Hocus Pocus"

One of my all-time favorite Halloween-season movies is "Hocus Pocus," starring Bette Midler. If you haven't seen this yet, please watch it. It's really such a fun movie, especially during this time of the year. From the Wikipedia, "The film tells the story of a Halloween-hating teenager named Max, who inadvertently resurrects three witches, The Sanderson Sisters, from their temporary death and must risk his life to protect his sister and defeat them with the help of a classmate crush and an immortal black cat."

let's get minimal • part two: purse organization

Let's Get Minimal

Welcome to "Let's Get Minimal," an every-once-and-a-while feature on the A Wild Tonic blog! I'm a bit obsessed with minimalization, so I thought I'd share some tips with my readers on how to live a simplified life. If you have any feedback or would like tips on a specific subject email me at awildtonic@gmail.com

My purses were hanging on a pretty efficient strap-hook thing on the back of my door. Unfortunately (fortunately?), I have a lot of purses, and this contraption wasn't working as well as it once did. I took all my purses down and got rid of the ones I don't use anymore. The ones that I use very frequently are now on a hook opposite of my door. The rest of the bags (which I use less often) are now in this vintage suitcase underneath my dresser. To save space, store smaller bags inside of larger bags. I added furniture mover pads to the bottom of the suitcase so it can slide out from under the dresser with ease!

guest post: "five favourites" from gillian at craftzilla conquers the world!

Today we have Gillian, from Craftzilla Conquers the World, sharing some of her favorite things with us. Thanks so much, Gillian! These are some of my favorites, too! :)

Hey everyone! This is Gillian from Craftzilla Conquers the World, stopping by the lovely Lauren’s blog to share with you some of my favourite things of the moment! I won’t lie, my thoughts of late are mostly of colder weather and ways to keep myself warm, so my five favourites right now definitely follow this theme!

Afghans and blankets –I’ve concluded I need more of these, since all I want to do is wrap myself up in blankets pretty much all the time. Love this one—might need to make one to use up yarn scraps AND keep warm at the same time!

I’m thinking about all kinds of hot drinks I want to drink –and that I need to make this hot chocolate with candy canes (and real whipped cream) on it again this year!

I’ve also been loving any and all sweaters I own that have hoods. Conclusion- more sweaters with hoods please!

I have a hat like this one in black—it might as well just get cold enough so I can wear it and be happy!

Warm and wintry cowls, I want to wear (and knit) you all!

Thanks for having me as a guest Lauren, and I hope you all enjoyed my favourites! For more of this kind of thing as well as crafty projects and photos, stop on over to my blog. I’d also love if you paid me a visit in my shop, talked my ear off on Twitter or stopped by my Facebook page!

CLOSED -- extended! sponsor spotlight + pin set or print giveaway! • flex family arts

Hey, readers! Here's a bit about one of my new sponsors, Amanda of Flex Family Arts! How great are those "Twin Peaks"-inspired items? Enjoy! If you're interested in sponsoring A Wild Tonic, read about it here. ps. Don't miss the giveaway after the interview!

Flex Family Arts

A bit about Amanda:
I am Amanda, one half of the Flex Family Arts team. I live with the Mister and Baby Flex near Atlanta. We spend most of our time making art, listening to music and laughing. The Mister and I recently got engaged as well and are looking forward to planning to get hitched soon.

Twin Peaks Pinback Button Set : Dale Cooper and The Man From Another Place. FREE SHIPPING.

What is Flex Family Arts?
We have three etsy shops, two that focus on embroidery and one that houses all the Mister's photography and our pin back buttons. We started making embroideries after the Mister gifted me with a hand-drawn card featuring a classic circus performer (I love the circus)...I decided that the image would be fun to embroider and that was it. We began with circus-themed work (freaks and sideshow gaffs) and then branched out into portraits of our favorite musicians, tv characters and pop culture items. The Mister has been playing with photography for some years and enjoys taking images of urban settings and street art, this along with our pin backs, mostly made from upcycled and vintage papers fill out our other shop.

Circus Sideshow Gaff Embroidery: The Jackalope. READY TO SHIP.

Amanda's perfect day is..
Our perfect day would be sleeping in (later that 630am) and making a pancake breakfast together. Afterwards, we would play all day, read, nap and Mama would work on some new embroidery. We would spend the evening at one of our pizza-movie-picnic-parties and maybe light a fire in the fire pit to make s'mores before bed. After the Baby was tucked in, the Mister and I would snuggle on the couch with peppermint hot chocolate and watch a good movie.

greetings from walt disney world!

Yes, it's true. The day is finally upon us. Frank and I are in Disney World. Our flight was so early this morning, and of course I couldn't sleep last night from excitement, so I'm a little drained right now. We're both really excited to spend a whole week relaxing, eating delicious food, soaking up sunshine, and regressing to childhood. I scheduled posts for the week, so the blog won't be dead while I'm away. Don't forget to follow me on Twitter and Instagram (awildtonic) for other fun updates!

Before I go, I just had to share this video. My best friend posted this on my Facebook wall a few days ago saying, "This is just perfection, and this is in honor of your upcoming trip!" She knows me too well, doesn't she?

music monday: "The Skeleton Dance"

According to Frank's mom, this song was his favorite when he was a kid. He used to dance around the house the same way the skeleton dances and everything. I had my fingers crossed for a home video of this alleged dance, but sadly there isn't one. I can only imagine how adorable he was. (Hope this post doesn't embarrass you, Frank!)

Since it's Halloween-season, and since Frank and I are leaving for Disney World tomorrow (at 4:30AM, geesh), I thought I'd share this classic Disney short for this week's music monday post. Enjoy!
