Work Station

As some of you may know, I live at home with my parents and younger sister. I'm very fortunate that my parents are generous enough to let me stay at home and save money (thanks Mom and Dad!), but I only have my bedroom to myself.

The trouble with this is that my Etsy shop dominates my bedroom. At any given moment my room looks like a vintage store exploded. There's piles to be washed and prepped, piles to be shot, piles to be listed, and piles to be stored. Underneath my bed are my shipping supplies, from boxes to bubble wrap. My closet is half-my clothes and half-my inventory. Obviously I love it, but it's getting overwhelming.

A few weeks ago, while helping my mom clean up our basement, I had a brilliant idea. I am going to turn an old work bench in our basement into my vintage work station! I've been daydreaming about it non-stop since then! I've made lists of what I need the bench to function as, and what I need to make it function properly. Yesterday I sketched out a plan for it, and (hopefully) this Sunday it will be created! Hooray!

As you can see, the bottom of the bench will hold my vintage suitcases and storage bins (in which I store inventory) and a crate of shipping boxes. There's a peg board on the left side of the table top, and I'm going to hang baskets to hold envelopes and mailers. I have a vintage train case that holds tape, business cards, and other shipping material. That case plus my postal scale will sit on the table. Finally, I'm going to hang a roll of bubble wrap from the ceiling for easy packing!

I think this will really help alleviate some of the stress I'm feeling in my bedroom. I'm sure the system will need modification at some point, but for now I think this looks good! What do you think? Am I forgetting anything? Halp! ;)

  1. Cute! I love these organization posts. You should definitely have a chalkboard for to-do lists and maybe some hanging file folders or clipboards for notes :)

  4. I can so relate to this. I'm lucky that when I moved in with my folks, I was also able to afford an office to store my inventory in (an shipping supplies, and all the inner fixins'). But now I'm craving a workspace at home. Now where to put it?

    1. Glad I'm not alone! Hmm, do your parents have a basement? Maybe a small section of your bedroom? Good luck to you! :)

  5. This looks awesome! I need to set up something like this! I make jewelry and am just opening up a vintage shop (I already sell my jewelry on Etsy) so I know about materials etc taking over your space! I'm lucky that my boyfriend & I just bought a townhouse & I have my own room for my workspace etc. A WHOLE ROOM. It is amazing. I'm still getting organized though and this is good inspiration :)
